The best bidet sprayers

The oldest design in the category, and still the one that gives you the most control over where the water goes.

Brondell CleanSpa Advanced Hand-Held Bidet Sprayer

The short answer

Buy the Brondell CleanSpa Advanced. Its pressure control is a thumb lever on the sprayer, not a valve down by the toilet, and Brondell publishes a holster that mounts to the toilet as well as the wall — so it needs no drilling. Cold water only, from the toilet supply.

What a sprayer is, and how it differs

A bidet sprayer is a hand-held nozzle on a hose, connected to the toilet’s water supply through a T-valve, and hung on a holster beside the toilet. You take it off the holster and aim it.

That is the whole difference from an attachment, which sits under the seat with a fixed nozzle. A sprayer gives you control of the angle and distance; an attachment gives you a consistent spray without using your hands. The full comparison is here.

Where the pressure control is decides everything

Toilet supply pressure is often more than you want from a hand-held sprayer. Every model here lets you control it, but not in the same place.

On the sprayer — the Advanced’s thumb lever, the Luxury’s trigger. You adjust while you use it.

At the T-valve — the Essential. You set it once, bending to the valve by the toilet, and change it the same way.

If you share the toilet with people who want different pressures, or you are not keen on bending down, the control needs to be in your hand.

The safety shutoff, and why to use it

All three models publish a T-valve with a water shutoff. That valve lets you take the sprayer hose off pressure between uses, rather than leaving it pressurized all day.

It is worth the habit. A hose and sprayer permanently under supply pressure are a leak waiting for a worn seal — and a leak at the toilet runs until someone notices a wet floor. Leak diagnosis for bidets is covered here.

Cold water only

Every sprayer here takes water from the toilet’s cold supply. There is no warm-water version in this format without running a line from the basin’s hot supply, which none of these publishes.

If warm water is important, the warm-water attachments are here — they tap the basin’s hot line instead.

Renter-safe, if you mount it on the toilet

All three rate Safe on our install rating, with one condition: mount the holster on the toilet, not the wall. Brondell publishes toilet mounting for the Advanced and Luxury.

The T-valve fits between the toilet’s existing shut-off and its fill line, exactly as a bidet attachment does. Keep the original connection parts in a bag and it all comes out on move-out day. The same install steps apply.

Brondell CleanSpa Advanced Hand-Held Bidet Sprayer

1. Best overall

CleanSpa Advanced Hand-Held Bidet Sprayer

Brondell · CSA-35 · best for precise control without reaching for a valve

A thumb-lever pressure control on the sprayer itself, a brass-core T-valve and a holster that mounts to the toilet.

The Brondell CleanSpa Advanced wins on the one detail that decides how a sprayer feels to use: where the pressure control is.

Brondell publishes a “thumb lever” that “provides easy, precise water pressure control”, on the sprayer. You adjust the flow with the hand that is already holding it, rather than bending down to a valve by the toilet.

It publishes a “brass core 7/8″ T-Valve with water shutoff”, a 47.2 in. spiral-metal hose, and a holster that mounts to the wall or to the toilet. That last point is what makes it renter-safe: mount the holster on the toilet and nothing is drilled.

Brondell publishes the sprayer at 2 x 6.5 x 1.1 in. and 1.4 lbs, in polished chrome, with a one-year limited warranty.

Why: The T-valve goes on the toilet's existing supply, and Brondell publishes that the holster mounts to the toilet as well as the wall. Mount it on the toilet and there is nothing to patch.

Brondell CleanSpa Luxury Hand-Held Bidet with Mounted Holster

2. Best build

CleanSpa Luxury Hand-Held Bidet with Mounted Holster

Brondell · MBH-40-S · best for a stainless sprayer with a trigger grip

A stainless steel sprayer with a spring-loaded trigger, sold with a holster that has its own shut-off knob.

The CleanSpa Luxury is the pick for build quality.

Brondell publishes a “stainless steel sprayer head” with a “spring-loaded trigger for easy operation and control” on a “high-quality, all-metal T-Valve”. The version sold today pairs it with a stainless holster carrying an “easy-twist, polished chrome knob for on/off water and pressure control”— a second shut-off at the point of use, which none of the others here publish.

It is published in three finishes — silver, white and black — and like every sprayer here it needs no power, delivering what Brondell calls a “refreshing, ambient temperature wash”.

One number to check before ordering: the hose. Brondell publishes “flexible, spiral-metal bidet hose with patented inner-woven core” at 39 in. on this bundle, where the Advanced publishes 47.2 in. If the toilet sits a long way from the shut-off, that eight inches is the difference.

Why: The same T-valve connection as a bidet attachment, with a holster Brondell publishes as mounting beside the toilet. Mounting it to a wall is the only part that would need a fixing.

Brondell CleanSpa Essential Hand-Held Bidet Sprayer

The one to skip

CleanSpa Essential Hand-Held Bidet Sprayer

Brondell · CS-30 · best for occasional use where the pressure is set once and left

A sound, cheaper sprayer — but its pressure control sits on the T-valve, not in your hand, and the holster mounting is unpublished.

The skip is about ergonomics, and it is a small but real difference.

The CleanSpa Essential publishes the same 47.2 in. spiral-metal hose and an “all-metal, brass-core T-Valve with water pressure control and safety shutoff”, with “wide and stream spray options” and a one-year warranty.

The difference is where you control the pressure. On the Essential it is at the T-valve — down by the toilet’s shut-off. On the Advanced and Luxury it is on the sprayer, in your hand. For anyone who adjusts pressure as they go, or who finds bending awkward, that is the whole product.

Brondell also publishes no holster mounting for the Essential, so you cannot confirm from the product page that it can mount to the toilet rather than the wall.

Questions people actually ask

what is the best bidet sprayer

The Brondell CleanSpa Advanced, on published specs: a thumb-lever pressure control on the sprayer itself, a brass-core T-valve with shutoff, a 47.2 inch spiral-metal hose, and a holster that mounts to the toilet or the wall.

do bidet sprayers have warm water

Not the ones here. Every model takes water from the toilet's cold supply through a T-valve. Warm water needs a connection to the basin's hot line, which is what warm-water bidet attachments do instead.

Warm-water bidets

can you install a bidet sprayer without drilling

Yes, if the holster mounts to the toilet. Brondell publishes that the CleanSpa Advanced and Luxury holsters mount to the wall or the toilet. The T-valve connects to the toilet's existing supply with no drilling.

should you turn off a bidet sprayer after use

It is a good habit. All three Brondell models publish a T-valve with a water shutoff, which takes the hose off supply pressure between uses so a worn seal cannot leak all day.
