TOTO Washlet vs Brondell Swash

Both make heated, warm-water bidet seats that bolt onto the toilet you have. They publish very different things about them.

By Sawyer V. · · How we research

A toilet with the lid down

The short answer

On published specs, TOTO’s Washlet C5 tells you its temperatures — a seat adjustable from 82 to 97°F and water from 95 to 104°F. Brondell’s Swash SE600 tells you its hardware: tank heating, a self-cleaning stainless nozzle, dimensions and weight. Both carry a one-year warranty. Choose the one that answers your question.

What each brand tells you

Put the two product pages side by side and they answer different questions. TOTO gives you the experience in numbers: how warm the seat gets, how warm the water gets. Brondell gives you the machine: how the water is heated, what the nozzle is made of, how big and heavy the seat is.

Neither is hiding anything obvious. But the gaps are different, and which gap matters depends on what you are worried about.

Temperatures

TOTO publishes a seat range of 82 to 97°F and a water range of 95 to 104°F for the C5. Brondell publishes that its seats are heated and its water is warm, without ranges. If you have a reason to care about the exact figures — sensitive skin, or a household member who feels the cold — TOTO gives you something to go on.

How the water is heated

Brondell says both Swash seats here use a tank heating system: a small reservoir kept warm. We could not confirm the C5’s method from the TOTO sources we could reach. Tank against instant heating is explained here.

Nozzle and cleaning

Brondell publishes a stainless steel nozzle that self-cleans before and after each wash. TOTO publishes PREMIST, which mists the bowl before use, and describes its spray as aerated, warm and dual action. Keeping any nozzle clean is covered here.

Controls

The C5 uses a remote with an illuminated touchpad. The SE400 uses a side-arm panel. A remote is easier to reach and keeps the seat slimmer; a side panel cannot be lost.

Warranty and power

Both brands publish one year: TOTO from the date of purchase for the C5, and Brondell’s one-year limited warranty on both Swash seats. Both need an outlet within cord reach of the toilet, and neither should run from an extension cord in a bathroom. If there is no outlet, this is the other route.

A note on our sources

TOTO’s website blocked our direct requests, so the C5 figures above are quoted from TOTO’s own specification sheet and instruction manual as published on totousa.com. Where we could not confirm a figure, we say so rather than fill it in.

If you rent

All three rate Ask first on our install rating: the seat goes on the existing bolt holes and comes off again, but the outlet is a landlord conversation.

TOTO WASHLET C5 Bidet Toilet Seat, Elongated

1. Best for published temperatures

WASHLET C5 Bidet Toilet Seat, Elongated

TOTO · SW3084 · best for knowing exactly how warm it gets

A heated seat from 82 to 97°F, warm water from 95 to 104°F, a bowl pre-mist and an illuminated remote.

The TOTO Washlet C5 publishes the numbers most bidet makers leave out: an adjustable heated seat with surface temperatures of 82 to 97°F (28 to 36°C), and warm-water spray adjustable from 95 to 104°F (35 to 40°C).

TOTO describes the wash as a “Gentle Aerated, Warm Water, Dual Action Spray”, and its PREMIST feature sprays the bowl before each use. Control is by a remote with an illuminated touchpad, and the warranty is one year from purchase.

Why: The seat goes onto the existing bolt holes and comes off again. The catch is the outlet it needs beside the toilet, which is a landlord conversation in most rentals.

Renter verdict: Ask firstIt comes off cleanly, but it touches something a landlord may care about.

Why: The seat itself swaps onto the existing bolt holes, so it is reversible. The catch is the plug: it needs a working outlet within cord reach of the toilet, and a lot of older bathrooms simply do not have one. That is a conversation with a landlord, not a drill.
