The best toilet brushes
Nobody wants to think about a toilet brush, which is exactly why a good one — that does not drip and hides itself — is worth choosing properly.

The short answer

The two jobs a toilet brush has
Reaching under the rim. That is where cleaning is needed and where a round brush struggles. simplehuman’s crescent head and OXO’s tapered heads are both shaped for it.
Not dripping afterwards. A wet brush moved to a holder drips on the floor, and a holder full of standing water is the least pleasant object in the house. Each brush here handles it differently: simplehuman with a magnetic collar that carries brush and cover together, OXO with drip trays.
Replaceable heads
A toilet brush head wears and stays dirty, and replacing the whole brush every time is wasteful. simplehuman publishes a head that screws off, and OXO publishes replacement heads for the compact model.
Neither publishes how often to replace one. A reasonable rule is when the bristles splay or stop springing back.
Keeping it clean
After use, hold the brush over the bowl and let it drain before putting it away. Rinse it with the flush if you like. Empty any drip tray regularly rather than letting water stand.
A brush that never dries is the bathroom’s humidity problem showing up in a small object. If the room stays damp, ventilation is the real fix.
Nothing to install
Every brush here rates Safe on our install rating: it stands on the floor. If floor space is tight, over-the-toilet storage and slim bathroom bins are covered too.
Every pick in full
2 we would buy, and one we would not. Each carries its Renter-Safe Install Rating, the published specs behind it, and the honest gap in what we know.

1. Best overall
Toilet Brush
simplehuman · BT1083 · best for reaching under the rim, without the drip
A crescent head for the rim, stiff outer bristles, a magnetic collar for drip-free carrying, and a five-year warranty.
The simplehuman toilet brush wins on the two things that decide whether a toilet brush is pleasant to own.
The first is the head. simplehuman publishes a “crescent-shaped brush head” that “easily reaches hard-to-clean areas around the rim”, with “Stiff outer bristles”. Under the rim is where cleaning actually needs doing, and a round brush misses most of it.
The second is the drip. simplehuman publishes “A unique magnetic collar” that “secures the cover to the stainless steel rod so you can carry them together — without drips”. Moving a wet brush from bowl to holder is where the mess happens, and this addresses it.
The head screws off for replacement, the rod is stainless steel, and simplehuman publishes a five-year warranty.

2. Best canister
Good Grips Stainless Steel Toilet Brush & Canister Set - Round
OXO · Stainless Steel Toilet Brush & Canister - Round · best for hands-free storage and a place for drips to go
A canister that springs open when you lift the brush, a built-in drip tray, and published dimensions.
The OXO stainless steel toilet brush and canister takes a different approach to the drip.
OXO publishes that you “Simply lift the Brush and the Canister automatically springs open”, with a “built-in drip tray” that catches excess water and “allows it to evaporate”. You never touch the lid.
It is the only brush here with published dimensions: 19 x 5.25 x 5 in. and 1.3 lbs. That makes it the one you can check against the gap beside your toilet.

The one to skip
Good Grips Compact Toilet Brush & Canister
OXO · Compact Toilet Brush & Canister · best for someone who has measured their gap already
Sold on a compact footprint — and OXO publishes no dimensions, which is the only thing that would prove it.
The skip is about a claim without a number.
The OXO compact brush publishes some genuinely good features: an “Automatic canister door” that opens as the brush lifts, a drip tray “with ventilation slots” so water evaporates quickly, a tapered head and replaceable heads.
But its reason to exist is size. OXO publishes it as having a “compact footprint” — and publishes no measurement. If you are buying a compact brush because a normal one will not fit, the one number you need is the one missing.
Measure the gap beside your toilet first. If the OXO stainless model’s published 5.25 x 5 in. footprint fits, buy that instead and know what you are getting.

Questions people actually ask
what is the best toilet brush
The simplehuman toilet brush, on published features: a crescent-shaped head for reaching under the rim, stiff outer bristles, a magnetic collar that carries brush and cover together without dripping, a replaceable head and a five-year warranty.
how do you stop a toilet brush dripping
Let it drain over the bowl first, then store it in a holder designed for drips. simplehuman uses a magnetic collar so brush and cover move together; OXO uses a drip tray that lets water evaporate.
how often should you replace a toilet brush
Neither maker publishes an interval. Replace the head when the bristles splay or stop springing back — simplehuman's head screws off, and OXO sells replacement heads for its compact model.
what size toilet brush fits a small bathroom
Check published dimensions. OXO publishes its stainless model at 19 x 5.25 x 5 inches; the OXO compact is sold as compact but publishes no measurement, and simplehuman publishes none either.
