The best towel warmers for small bathrooms

In a small bathroom the specification that decides everything is the one buyers check last: how much space the thing physically takes up.

By Sawyer V. · · How we research

A narrow bathroom interior

The short answer

Go up the wall or use a bucket. WarmlyYours publishes the Palma at 19.68 x 17.71 x 4.33 in wall-mounted — it uses no floor at all. The Zadro bucket is 12 in across and stands anywhere. The freestanding rails need close to two square feet of floor you probably do not have.

Measure before you shop, not after

The most common regret in this category is not the running cost or the heat output. It is that the appliance arrived and there was nowhere to put it.

Do this first: stand in the bathroom with a tape measure and find the largest rectangle of floor that is genuinely free — not partly free, not free if you move the bin. Then measure the largest clear rectangle of wall between about three and six feet up.

Compare those two numbers against the published dimensions below. This is a five-minute job and it settles the entire decision.

The published footprints, side by side

Every figure here is the manufacturer’s own.

WarmlyYours Palma (wall): 19.68 in H x 17.71 in W x 4.33 in D. No floor used at all.

Lasko CD08200 (floor): 8 in H, 6.25 in square. About 0.27 sq ft.

Zadro bucket (floor): 21.25 in H, 12 in diameter. About 0.78 sq ft, and portable.

WarmlyYours Ibiza (floor): 34.84 in H x 21.85 in W x 13.97 in D. About 2.1 sq ft.

WarmlyYours Barcelona (floor): 37 in H x 24 in W x 15.5 in D. About 2.6 sq ft.

The gap between the wall rail and the freestanding rails is the whole page. They do a similar job; one of them uses no floor.

Depth matters more than width in a narrow room

A bathroom that is short of space is usually short of it in one direction: the walking route between the door, the basin and the shower.

Something 4.33 inches deep on a wall does not intrude on that route. Something 14 to 15.5 inches deep on the floor does, and it does so at shin height in a room where people move about wet and barefoot.

This is why the published depth is the number to check first, ahead of width and well ahead of wattage.

The permission trade-off

The best small-bathroom answer is the one that needs permission, and it is worth being clear about why.

The Palma rates Owner-only on our install rating because WarmlyYours ships it with a wall-mount hardware kit — four anchors in tile or plasterboard. The plug end is renter-friendly; the bracket end leaves holes.

It is also one of the easier things to get a yes to. It is 60 W, plug-in, cULus listed, needs no electrician, and a heated towel rail left behind is a genuine improvement to the property at your expense. How to frame that is here.

If the answer is no, the bucket is the fallback: 0.78 sq ft, no fixings, and it can live in a cupboard between uses.

Small rooms heat faster, which changes the maths

One genuine advantage of a small bathroom: less air to warm.

Lasko publishes coverage up to 100 sq ft for the CD08200, which is most small bathrooms twice over. The heater is oversized for the room, which means short run times rather than continuous operation.

The same logic applies to rails. The Palma’s 60 W and 205 Btu/h go further in a small room than they would in a large one, so the lowest-powered rail here is not the compromise it looks like on paper.

What we would actually do

If you can drill: the Palma. It is the only product here that gives you a real heated rail and costs you no floor.

If you cannot drill: the Zadro bucket for a hot towel on demand, or the Lasko if the honest problem is that the room is cold.

If towels never dry: the constraint may not be space at all. Two lighter towels alternated, hung open rather than folded, fixes a surprising amount for nothing — the full list is here.

Every pick in full

3 we would buy, and one we would not. Each carries its Renter-Safe Install Rating, the published specs behind it, and the honest gap in what we know.

1. Best overall

WarmlyYours Palma Wall-Mounted Plug-In Towel Warmer

WarmlyYours · TWS2-PLM04PP · best for using wall instead of floor

19.68 x 17.71 in and only 4.33 in deep, wall-mounted and plug-in at 60 W — zero floor footprint.

In a small bathroom the floor is already spoken for, and the wall above head height is usually empty. The Palma is the pick because it moves the appliance off the floor entirely.

WarmlyYours publishes “19.68″” H by “17.71″” W by “4.33″” D. Four and a third inches of projection is about the same as a towel rail you already have, so it does not intrude into the room in any way you would notice.

It is “Wall Mounted” and “Plug-in” — no electrician, no hardwiring — shipping with an “installation manual and hardware kit”, in “304-stainless steel”, cULus listed, with a “5-year limited warranty”.

At 60 W over four bars it is the gentlest here, which suits a small room that heats up quickly anyway.

Zadro Zadro 20-Liter Towel Warmer Bucket

2. Smallest footprint that needs no permission

Zadro 20-Liter Towel Warmer Bucket

Zadro · TWB01 · best for a bathroom where you can spare one foot square

21.25 in tall and 12 in across, 8.5 lb, plugs in and can be moved or put away between uses.

The Zadro bucket is the compromise for a bathroom where nothing can go on the wall.

Zadro publishes 21.25″ high, 12″ diameter and 8.5 lbs. A circle a foot across is a small commitment, and at eight and a half pounds it can be lifted into a cupboard when not in use — which no rail can.

It publishes a “20-Liter large towel heater tub”, 480 W maximum, a timer you “set to 15, 30, 45 or 60 minutes before automatically shutting off”, and a “polarized B power plug for increased safety”with an 83-inch cord.

The long cord matters more in a small bathroom than a large one, because the only free outlet is rarely near the only free floor.

3. Smallest thing here that solves a cold bathroom

Lasko 8″ Bathroom Ceramic Heater with ALCI Plug

Lasko · CD08200 · best for when the real problem is the room, not the towels

8 in tall, 6.25 in square, 3.35 lb, with an integrated ALCI safety plug and a published bathroom design intent.

Worth naming the possibility: in a small bathroom, the reason a towel feels cold is often that the room is cold, and a heater is a smaller and cheaper object than a rail.

The Lasko CD08200 is published at “8.00 in” high and “6.25 in” wide and deep, at “3.35 lb”. That is smaller than most bathroom bins.

It is the only product on this page Lasko designs specifically for the room: an integrated ALCI safety plug, ETL listed, “900 W to 1500 W”, two heat settings, a 1-hour auto-shutoff and coverage up to 100 sq ft — which is most small bathrooms twice over.

About seven cents to run for the fifteen minutes it takes to shower and dry off. The full heater comparison is here.

The one to skip

WarmlyYours Barcelona Freestanding Towel Warmer

WarmlyYours · TW-BC-08BS-FS2 · best for a large bathroom, where it is an excellent product

24 in wide, 37 in tall and 15.5 in deep on the floor — a genuinely good rail and far too much object for a small room.

This is the skip on footprint alone, and only on this page.

WarmlyYours publishes “24″ (610 mm) W x 37″ (940 mm) H x 15.5″ (394 mm) D”. Two feet wide and over fifteen inches deep, standing on the floor, is roughly two and a half square feet — a substantial share of the free floor in a small bathroom, and it is three feet tall.

In a normal bathroom it earns that space: 150 W over eight bars, “warming up to 2 large towels”, cETLus listed. That is why it is recommended on the main heated towel rack page.

In a bathroom where you already turn sideways to pass the basin, it is the wrong purchase, and a 4.33-inch-deep wall rail does the same job without taking any floor.

Questions people actually ask

what is the best towel warmer for a small bathroom

A wall-mounted one, because it uses no floor. WarmlyYours publishes the Palma at 19.68 by 17.71 inches and only 4.33 inches deep. If you cannot drill, a bucket at 12 inches across is the smallest option that needs no fixings.

how much space does a towel warmer need

Freestanding rails need about two to two and a half square feet of floor and stand three feet tall. A bucket needs about three quarters of a square foot. A wall rail needs none, projecting about four inches from the wall.

can you put a towel warmer in a small bathroom

Yes, but check the published depth before the wattage. A freestanding rail 14 to 15.5 inches deep sits at shin height in the walking route, which is the thing people regret. A wall rail avoids it entirely.

are wall mounted towel warmers renter friendly

The plug end is; the bracket end is not. Four anchors go into tile or plasterboard, so we rate wall-mounted rails Owner-only. It is one of the easier permissions to get, because it is 60 W, plug-in and needs no electrician.
