The best raised toilet seats
The simplest way to make a toilet easier to get on and off. The spec that matters most is not the height; it is how the seat locks to the bowl.

What a raised seat does
A raised seat locks onto the toilet bowl and lifts the sitting height by 4.5 to 5 in. for the seats here. It is the no-plumbing alternative to a taller toilet, and it comes off again without tools. Comfort-height toilets are compared here.
How much height is right
The ADA Standards give one published reference for accessible toilets: “The seat height of a water closet above the finish floor shall be 17 inches (430 mm) minimum and 19 inches (485 mm) maximum measured to the top of the seat.”
Measure your current seat height before you buy. Adding 5 in. can take a toilet well past that range, which may suit someone who struggles to stand, and may not suit someone shorter. Ask their occupational therapist if one is involved.
The lock is the safety feature
A raised seat that shifts on the bowl is worse than none. The locks published here differ: three points on the PreserveTech, a heavy-duty worm screw on the 2-in-1, a standard lock on the Premium, and a front lock on the ProBasics. Check the lock is tight every time the seat has been off for cleaning.
Arms, and the space between them
Arms give something to push on when standing. The published spacing is 17.5 in. (PreserveTech), 18 in. (2-in-1) and 21 in. (Premium). Measure the person’s hips while seated and allow a margin. All three seats with arms let you remove them without tools, which helps with sideways transfers.
Capacity
The PreserveTech and ProBasics publish 350 lb; the 2-in-1 and Premium publish 300 lb. Choose a capacity with room above the user’s weight.
Grab bars, benches and bidets
A raised seat works best with a grab bar beside the toilet, and a shower bench solves the same problem in the shower. Many people also ask about a bidet with a raised seat: we found no maker publishing compatibility between the two, so check with both before combining them. Bidets for limited mobility are covered here.
If you rent
Every seat here rates Safe on our install rating: it locks on by hand, nothing is drilled, and it comes off the same way.

1. Best overall
PreserveTech Secure Lock Raised Toilet Seat
Drive Medical · RTL12C003-WH · best for most toilets, and most people
5 in. of lift, a three-point lock, 350 lb capacity and padded arms that adjust or come off.
The Drive Medical PreserveTech Secure Lock wins on the lock. Drive publishes “Three locking points of security located on the front, left and right side”, each with an adjustable knob, where most raised seats lock at the front only.
It adds 5 in., carries 350 lb, and “Fits comfortably on most standard and elongated toilets”. The padded arms adjust in height or come off, with 17.5 in. between them, and it goes on with “No Tools Required!”
Drive is careful about its antimicrobial agent, saying it does “not protect users or others against bacteria, viruses, germs or other disease organisms”. It is a cleaning aid for the plastic, not a health feature.

The one to skip
ProBasics Raised Toilet Seat with Lock
Drive Medical · BSRTSL · best for someone who has already checked it fits
Capacity and lift are published; seat dimensions, toilet shape and warranty are not.
The ProBasics raised seat publishes good headline numbers and leaves out the ones that decide fit.
You get a “350 lb weight capacity”, a seat that “Elevates existing seat height by 4.5″”, and an “Adjustable front locking mechanism tightens easily with one hand”.
What you do not get is seat dimensions, the toilet shapes it fits, or a warranty. For a product that has to lock onto your particular bowl, those are the gaps that matter. It also has no arms, and lifts half an inch less than the others.
