The best non-slip bath mats
This is the mat that stops a fall, and it is the one category in the bathroom where nobody publishes a slip test. Here is what they do publish.

The short answer
We earn a commission if you buy through the links on this page, at no extra cost to you. It does not change which products we pick or what we say about them — here is exactly how that works.
Quick picks
Tap any row for the full write-up. Prices are checked against Amazon rather than remembered — where we have no verified figure the button says so.
This is not the mat you step onto
Two different products share the name. The mat on this page goes inside the tub or shower, under your feet while the water is running. The absorbent one on the floor is a different job, compared on the bath mat and rug page and chosen for a hard floor on the tiled-floor guide.
Suction cups need a smooth tub
Every suction mat here publishes the same condition in its own words. Vive: the base “requires a smooth surface to secure to”. Yimobra: “Not for use on textured, tiled, or non-smooth surfaces”. Gorilla Grip adds refinished tubs and shower pans to that list.
Run your hand across the bottom of your tub before you order. If it is a molded non-slip texture, a tiled shower floor, or a resurfaced tub, suction cups are the wrong format and an adhesive mat or a bench is the better answer.
Nobody publishes a slip test
This is the honest gap in the category. Not one of these makers cites a coefficient-of-friction test or a standard for slip resistance. Moen’s adhesive mat is the only product here that cites any standard at all, and what it cites is ADA compliance, which is about accessible design rather than grip.
So compare what is published: cup counts, texture, size and the surfaces each maker rules out.
Drain holes and mildew
Water that cannot drain sits under the mat, and that is where mildew starts. Yimobra publishes “240 drain holes”; Gorilla Grip publishes “hundreds of drainage holes”; Vive shows a drainage design but gives no count.
Whatever you buy, lift it out after a shower rather than leaving it flat in a wet tub. Vive and Yimobra both publish machine washing; hang the mat to dry rather than tumbling it.
Size it to the standing area
The mats here run from 27.5 in. to 35.5 in. long and 15.5 in. to 16 in. wide. A longer mat covers more of the tub floor; a shorter one is easier to lift out and wash. Measure the flat part of your tub, not the whole length, because the curved ends are where cups fail.
If you rent
Every suction mat here rates Safe on our install rating — it lifts out and leaves nothing behind. Moen’s adhesive mat rates Ask first, because it is glued to the landlord’s tub. If the bathroom needs more than a mat, a grab bar is the fixture to ask for.
Every pick in full
4 we would buy, and one we would not. Each carries its Renter-Safe Install Rating, the published specs behind it, and the honest gap in what we know.

1. Best overall
28 in. x 16 in. Bath Mat
Vive Health · LVA1017M · best for most tubs, and anyone who wants to wash the mat
116 suction cups, latex-free rubber, a ribbed surface, machine washable, 60-day guarantee.
The Vive Health bath mat publishes the most complete set of figures here: “Length: 28 in” by “Width: 16 in”, “Latex-free rubber”, and “116 strong suction cups hold the bath mat securely in place”.
It “Features a ribbed pattern to provide greater traction and stability”, is published as “resistant to mold and mildew”, and washes “in cold water with a mild detergent” before air drying. Vive backs it with a “60 day guarantee”.
The condition is published too: “The strong suction cup base requires a smooth surface to secure to”, and Vive names ceramic, acrylic or fiberglass tubs.

What’s wrong with it
A smaller footprint than the 35-inch mats here, so it covers the standing area rather than the whole tub.
What we can’t tell you
Vive publishes no drain-hole count and no slip-resistance test.

What’s wrong with it

3. Best warnings
Bath Mat, 35 in. x 16 in.
Gorilla Grip · Bath Mat 35 x 16 · best for a long tub, and knowing where a mat will not work
35 x 16 in. with hundreds of cups and drain holes — and the only refinished-tub warning here.
The Gorilla Grip bath mat is the longest here at “35" x 16"”, with “hundreds of suction cups”, “hundreds of drainage holes” and “a unique hexagon design with a pebble-textured topside”.
It is also the only mat here whose product page warns about refinished tubs: “install only on smooth, clean, non-textured, non-tiled surfaces; not for use on newly refinished tubs, shower pans, or similar surfaces”. If your tub has been resurfaced, that warning is the most useful sentence on this page.

Why: It suctions to the tub floor and peels off. The only condition is the one Gorilla Grip publishes: a smooth, clean, untextured surface.

What’s wrong with it
Gorilla Grip does not name the material beyond “BPA-free”, publishes no warranty term, and it was sold out when we checked.

4. The adhesive alternative
Home Care Adhesive Bath Mat
Moen · DN7050 · best for textured tubs where suction cups will not hold
A trimmable PVC mat with an adhesive backing, ADA compliant, with a limited lifetime warranty.
Suction cups need a smooth tub. If yours is textured, the format changes: Moen’s Home Care mat is “made from polyvinyl chloride with a pebbled top surface and a waterproof adhesive backing”.
It is 34 x 16 in., “easily trimmed to any smaller size desired”, the only mat here that “complies with Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) specifications”, and it carries a “limited lifetime warranty”.

Why: It is glued to the tub floor. Not a hole in a wall, but a permanent adhesive layer on the landlord's tub, and taking it off is a scraping job rather than a lift-off.

What’s wrong with it
It is glued down. That makes it permanent, and it rates Ask first in a rental for exactly that reason.
What we can’t tell you
Moen publishes no care instructions and no mildew claim.

The one to skip
Bath Mat
Drive Medical · 12950 · best for nobody who can buy one of the others
No width, no cup count, no care instructions — and two different warranties in its own documents.
Drive Medical publishes the shape of a good mat and almost none of the detail.
You get “Latex Free rubber”, “multiple suction cups”, a “contour-cut design to fit around drain” and a length of “35.5"”. There is no width, no cup count, no washing instruction and no warning about which tubs it suits.
Its own documents also disagree about the warranty: the catalog sheet says “Limited 90 Day”, while the owner’s manual prints a lifetime limited warranty that excludes rubber accessories. The price is behind a trade sign-in. Any of the four above tells you more.

Questions people actually ask
do non slip bath mats work on textured tubs
Suction mats do not. Yimobra publishes 'Not for use on textured, tiled, or non-smooth surfaces' and Gorilla Grip rules out textured, tiled and newly refinished tubs. An adhesive mat such as Moen's DN7050 is the format for those surfaces.
how many suction cups should a bath mat have
There is no standard, and only some makers count them: Vive publishes 116 and Yimobra publishes 260, while Gorilla Grip says only 'hundreds'. Coverage of the area you stand on matters more than the number.
can you wash a non slip bath mat
Vive publishes a cold machine wash with mild detergent and air drying; Yimobra publishes machine washing with no dryer or radiator; Gorilla Grip publishes cold machine washing and air drying. Drive Medical publishes no washing instruction.
are bath mats or grab bars better for preventing slips
They do different things: a mat improves grip underfoot, a grab bar gives you something rated to hold your weight. Moen and Delta publish 500 lb for their grab bars; no mat here publishes a slip test.
