The best anti-fog bathroom mirrors
The feature is simple: warm the glass so it never reaches the dew point. What it costs you is wall, wiring and about 85 watts.

The short answer
We earn a commission if you buy through the links on this page, at no extra cost to you. It does not change which products we pick or what we say about them — here is exactly how that works.
Quick picks

What an anti-fog mirror actually is
A heated pad on the back of the glass. Warm the mirror above the dew point of the air touching it and condensation cannot form, which is the same physics as running hot water over the glass before a shower — only automatic.
Robern’s drawings show the defogger as a discrete pad with its own location on the back of the mirror. That is the whole feature, and it is why it adds watts rather than complexity.
The number that matters: 85 watts
Robern publishes “Watt Output - LED with optional defogger on” of “85w max” for both mirrors here. At two hours a day and 18.34 cents per kWh that is about $11 a year — our arithmetic from Robern’s figure.
Kohler’s lighted mirror, with no defogger, publishes 96 W. So an anti-fog mirror is not the expensive one to run; it is simply a mirror with a heater that only needs to be on while you are in the room.
Plug-in is not the same as renter-safe
Robern publishes “Plug-in mirror, saves on install time” and “Power cords installed for easy plugin installation”, which sounds like a tenant could fit one. Two things stop that: the mirror is “Constructed for surface mounting” with a security bracket, and the outlet in Robern’s drawing sits behind the glass. Most bathrooms do not have an outlet there.
Kohler goes further and asks for a dedicated GFCI circuit and an electrician. Both are Owner-only on our install rating.
Light quality, since you are buying a light too
Both Robern mirrors publish CRI 90+ and an R9 value of 50+, and dim to 1%. Kohler publishes a lux figure at a distance instead, with no CRI. If the mirror is where you shave or do makeup, CRI is the number to insist on — the same standard we apply to vanity bulbs.
Cheaper ways to stop the fog
In order of cost: run the fan before and after the shower, warm the glass with hot water, use a surfactant film, or put a fog-resistant mirror inside the shower. All four are covered in full here, and the first one is free.
A defogger is worth buying when you are replacing the mirror anyway, or when the room simply cannot be ventilated well enough. Ventilation against a window is compared here.
If you rent
The Tooletries mirror rates Safe; both wall mirrors rate Owner-only. If you rent and hate the fog, the mirror upgrades that need no permission are here.
Every pick in full
3 we would buy, and one we would not. Each carries its Renter-Safe Install Rating, the published specs behind it, and the honest gap in what we know.
1. Best overall
Vitality Wall Mirror, 24 x 40 in., Glow, with Defogger
Robern · YM2440RGFPD3 · best for a full-height mirror over a single vanity
A defogger, glow lighting behind a front and side diffuser, CRI 90+ and dimming to 1%.
The Robern Vitality 24 x 40 in. is the most completely specified anti-fog mirror we could source. The defogger is part of the model number — Robern’s key reads “D = Defogger Included” — and the options list says plainly: “Mirror defogging”.
The light is a “Front and side diffuser, no visible LED's”, dimmable “to 1%” and “Compatible with most Triac/Phase-cut dimmers”. Color rendering is CRI “90+” with an R9 value of “50+”, which is the figure that decides whether skin tones look right.
Robern is also honest about its own lumen number. The sheet lists “2170” estimated lumens with the footnote “Mirror measured not the raw LED. Based on 48" x 36" Mirror” — so that figure was taken on a larger mirror than this one, and we are not going to present it as this model’s output.

What it costs to run — Electricity
- Power
- 85 W maximum, with the defogger on (Robern's published figure)
- Use
- 2 hours a day (our example)
- Rate
- 18.34 cents per kWh (US residential average, June 2026)
85 W x 2 h x 365 / 1000 x $0.1834 = $11.38
About $11 a year at two hours a day, with the defogger running

What’s wrong with it
Robern's drawing puts the outlet behind the mirror, so a plug-in mirror still needs an outlet in the right place.
What we can’t tell you
No warranty on the specification sheet, and the published lumens were measured on a different size.

2. Best for a smaller wall
Vitality Wall Mirror, 24 x 30 in., Edge Lit, with Defogger
Robern · YM2430RSFPD3 · best for a 24 x 30 in. space, or an edge-lit look
The same defogger and dimming in a 30 in. tall mirror, lit as a 2 in. edge band.
The Robern Vitality 24 x 30 in. is the same platform in a shorter mirror, and it is lit differently: the model key reads “S = Edge Lit”, with a lighted band 2 in. (51 mm) wide on Robern’s drawing.
Defogging, dimming to 1%, CRI 90+ and the 85 W maximum are all the same. Its estimated lumen figure is “1120”, again footnoted as measured on a different size.
One thing to flag: this sheet lists 2700K, while the 24 x 40 in. sheet lists 3000K and notes that Vitality mirrors moved “to 3000K CCT from 2700K CCT” in Fall 2021. The two sheets disagree, so confirm the color temperature with the seller before you order.

3. Best cheap alternative
Tooletries The Joseph Shave Mirror
Tooletries · The Joseph · best for shaving in the shower, and renters
A shatterproof silicone-grip mirror published as “Fog resistant” — no wiring, no permission.
There is a much cheaper way to buy your way out of a fogged mirror, and it is the only option here a tenant can use. The Tooletries Joseph is published as “Fog resistant” and “shatterproof”, made from “100% antimicrobial silicone”, with a razor cradle.
It grips onto glass or tile inside the shower and is “Removable and reusable”, so it needs no outlet and no fixing. Different product, same problem solved.

The one to skip
Verdera Lighted Mirror, 24 x 33 in.
Kohler · K-99571-TL · best for people who want light at the mirror and do not care about fog
A lighted mirror with no defogger — and the heaviest install requirements here.
This is the mirror people buy by mistake when they search for an anti-fog one, because it looks identical on a shelf.
Kohler’s Verdera Lighted Mirror publishes front-of-mirror LED task lighting, “1100 Lux at 22"” and “Light guide provides an even, consistent light.” It does not publish a defogger, an anti-fog coating, or any fog claim at all.
It also asks for more than the Robern mirrors do: “One dedicated circuit required, protected with Class A Ground-Fault Circuit-Interrupter (GFCI)”, a dimmer switch, 96 W of load, and “Recommend professional electrician installation.” If fog is the reason you are shopping, this is not the product.

Questions people actually ask
how does an anti-fog bathroom mirror work
A heated pad behind the glass keeps the mirror above the dew point of the air touching it, so condensation cannot form. Robern publishes it as 'Mirror defogging' and includes it in the model number.
do anti-fog mirrors use a lot of electricity
Not much. Robern publishes 85 W maximum with the defogger on; at two hours a day and 18.34 cents per kWh that is about $11 a year by our arithmetic.
are all lighted bathroom mirrors anti-fog
No, and that is the trap. Kohler's Verdera Lighted Mirror publishes front-of-mirror LED lighting and no defogger at all. Check for the word defogger or demister in the specification, not just the product photo.
can a renter install an anti-fog mirror
Generally no. Robern's mirrors are surface-mounted with a security bracket and expect an outlet behind the glass; Kohler asks for a dedicated GFCI circuit and an electrician. A fog-resistant shower mirror needs neither.
