Is a towel warmer a good gift?
It is the rare gift that is both a luxury and a daily-use object. It is also easy to get wrong, because two of the three formats need something from the recipient's wall or wiring.

The short answer
We earn a commission if you buy through the links on this page, at no extra cost to you. It does not change which products we pick or what we say about them — here is exactly how that works.
Quick picks
Tap any row for the full write-up. Prices are checked against Amazon rather than remembered — where we have no verified figure the button says so.
Why it works as a gift
Most luxuries stop feeling like luxuries. A warm towel does not, because the contrast is reinstated every single morning — you step out of the shower cold and wet, which is exactly the condition that makes warm fabric feel remarkable.
It is also a category almost nobody buys for themselves. People talk about towel warmers after a hotel stay and then never get round to it, which is the definition of a good present. Whether one is worth it for you, with the arithmetic, is a separate question answered here.
The format decides whether it lands
There are three, and only two of them can be given safely to someone whose bathroom you have not measured.
| Format | What it needs from the recipient | Give it? |
|---|---|---|
| Bucket | An outlet and a patch of floor | Yes — the safest gift in the category |
| Freestanding rail | An outlet and roughly 14 in. of floor depth | Yes, if you can picture the room |
| Wall-mounted or hardwired | Four fixings into tile, or an electrician and a GFCI circuit | No |
A wall-mounted rail is a lovely thing to own and a bad thing to receive: you have handed someone a job, a decision about where it goes, and possibly a conversation with a landlord. The format comparison in full is here.
The two questions to answer before you order
Is there an outlet in the bathroom? Many older bathrooms have one socket by the basin and nothing else. A bucket can live on the floor near it; a rail needs the outlet within cord reach, and WarmlyYours publishes 71 in. on the Ibiza.
Do they rent? If so, the answer is a bucket or a freestanding rail and nothing else — both leave with them. What renters can change is here.
Who should not be given one
Someone in a very small bathroom. A bucket is about 12.6 in. square in VEVOR’s published footprint and a rail needs more. In a room where the door swings across most of the floor, this becomes a thing to move rather than a thing to enjoy.
Someone who wants the room warmer. A towel warmer heats towels. The Ibiza publishes 307 Btu an hour, which is a rounding error against a bathroom’s heat loss. What actually warms a cold bathroom is here.
Someone with a busy, shared bathroom. One towel at a time, on a timer, is a poor fit for four people on a school morning.
What we will not tell you
We have not given or received any of these, and we have measured nothing. Every figure here is a manufacturer’s published number with its source linked, and the gaps are stated: VEVOR publishes no wattage, WarmlyYours publishes no heat-up time, and Brookstone publishes almost nothing at all — which is why it is the skip.
Every pick in full
2 we would buy, and one we would not. Each carries its Renter-Safe Install Rating, the published specs behind it, and the honest gap in what we know.

1. Best towel warmer to give
VEVOR 20-Liter Towel Warmer Bucket
VEVOR · 20L with LED display and security lock · best for giving the hot-towel moment with nothing to install and nothing to measure
A 20-liter heated tub with a child lock, a 24-hour delay start, an overheat light and ETL and FCC certification. Unbox, plug in, done.
VEVOR’s 20 L bucket is the right shape for a gift because it asks nothing of the room. There is no bracket, no wall, no cord routing decision and no size to get wrong — it stands on the floor and plugs in.
It also publishes the most reassuring specification list in the category: “ETL & FCC-certified”, a “Child Lock”, an “Auto shut-off function”, a “U-shaped overheat light (red when over 60°C/140°F)” and “Bottom Drainage”. If the recipient has children, that list is the one you want on the box.
The feature that makes it feel like a present rather than an appliance is the “24-Hour Reservation, 30-Minute Increment” delay start: set it the night before, and the towel is warm when they get up. The full bucket ranking is here.

What’s wrong with it
A bucket warms a dry towel in a sealed tub. It does not dry a wet one, and it does not warm the room.
What we can’t tell you
VEVOR publishes no rated power, so nobody can tell the recipient what it costs to run.

2. Best if the gift budget is larger
WarmlyYours Ibiza Freestanding Towel Warmer
WarmlyYours · TWS5-IBZ06PP · best for a gift that dries the towel every day rather than warming it on request
Six 304-stainless bars on a floor stand, 90 W through a normal plug, published to the cord length, the cutout and a 5-year warranty.
The Ibiza is the version of this gift that changes a daily routine instead of providing an occasional treat. WarmlyYours publishes it as “Freestanding” with a “71″” cord on a “NEMA 5-15 (Type B)” plug, six bars of “304-stainless steel”, “90 W” and a “5-year limited warranty”.
Ninety watts is what makes it giftable without guilt: on a two-hour daily timer that is about 3 cents a day, or roughly $12 a year, at the EIA’s published US residential average rate. Nobody has to feel bad about switching it on. The full review is here.
Check one thing before ordering: the recipient needs a strip of floor about 14 in. deep near an outlet. That is the only measurement this gift requires. The freestanding rails are ranked here.

The one to skip
Brookstone Luxury Towel Warmer Bucket with LED Display
Brookstone (by Pursonic) · Luxury Towel Warmer Bucket · best for nobody, as a gift — it publishes too little to stand behind
A bucket that publishes a dramatic heat-up claim and almost nothing else: no rated power, no maximum temperature, no dimensions and no warranty.
Brookstone publishes “rapid heating in just 1 minute and reaches a high temperature in just 4 minutes”, “3 Timer Settings with Auto Shut Off”, a “Built-In LED Display” and “4 Detachable Hooks” on a 23-liter tub.
What it does not publish is everything you would want to know before handing it to somebody else: rated power, maximum temperature, dimensions and warranty all read “Not published” on our spec table because Brookstone states none of them. A “high temperature in 4 minutes” claim with no temperature attached is not a specification, and a gift should come with a warranty you can point at.
The VEVOR above it publishes certification, a child lock and an overheat threshold for similar money. The two best-documented buckets are compared here.

Questions people actually ask
is a towel warmer a good gift
Yes, if you give a bucket or a freestanding rail. Both need only an outlet and a patch of floor. A wall-mounted or hardwired rail is a bad gift because it hands the recipient a drilling job or an electrician.
which towel warmer should i buy as a gift
A bucket for most people — VEVOR's 20-liter publishes a child lock, a 24-hour delay start, an overheat light and ETL and FCC certification. For a larger gift, the freestanding WarmlyYours Ibiza runs at 90 W, about $12 a year on a two-hour daily timer.
do towel warmers cost a lot to run
No. A 90 W freestanding rail on a two-hour daily timer is about 3 cents a day, or roughly $12 a year at the EIA's published US residential average of 18.34 cents per kWh. Buckets draw more but only run on a 15 to 60 minute timer.
what do you need to use a towel warmer
An outlet and somewhere to put it. A bucket needs a patch of floor; a freestanding rail needs roughly 14 inches of floor depth within cord reach — WarmlyYours publishes a 71-inch cord on the Ibiza.
is a towel warmer worth it for a small bathroom
As a gift, be careful. VEVOR publishes a 12.6 in. square footprint for its bucket and freestanding rails need more. In a bathroom where the door swings across the floor it becomes something to move rather than something to use.
