Freestanding vs wall-mounted towel warmers
Same heated bars, two decisions: whether you give up floor space, or make four holes in a tiled wall.

The short answer
We earn a commission if you buy through the links on this page, at no extra cost to you. It does not change which products we pick or what we say about them — here is exactly how that works.
Quick picks
Tap any row for the full write-up. Prices are checked against Amazon rather than remembered — where we have no verified figure the button says so.
The difference is the bracket, not the heat
All three units here are plug-in, 120 V, cULus or cETLus listed, and made from 304 stainless. Electrically they are the same proposition. What differs is how they stay upright: the Ibiza and Barcelona stand on the floor, and the Palma is screwed to the wall.
That single detail decides the install rating. Freestanding warmers rate Safe on our install rating; the wall-mounted Palma rates Owner-only, because a hardware kit in tile leaves holes to make good.
Floor space against wall space
- Ibiza (freestanding): 34.84 in. high, 21.85 in. wide, 13.97 in. deep.
- Barcelona (freestanding): 37 in. high, 24 in. wide, 15.5 in. deep.
- Palma (wall-mounted): 19.68 in. high, 17.71 in. wide, 4.33 in. from the wall.
A freestanding warmer takes about a square foot and a half of floor; the wall unit takes none, and projects less than five inches. In a bathroom where two people pass each other, that is the argument for drilling.
Capacity
Bars are the rough proxy: four on the Palma, six on the Ibiza, eight on the Barcelona, which WarmlyYours publishes as warming up to two large towels. If you need a robe dried rather than a hand towel warmed, the bigger freestanding unit is the one built for it. Warmers sized for robes are here.
Running cost, and the habit that decides it
Watts are published for all three, so the arithmetic is real: at 18.34 cents per kWh and two hours a day, the Ibiza costs about 3 cents a day and the Barcelona about 6.
The Palma is the cheapest to run per hour at 60 W — and the most expensive in practice, because wall-mounted warmers are the ones people leave on permanently. Left on 24 hours a day it is about 26 cents a day, or roughly $96 a year. A plug-in timer is the difference between those two numbers. Whether to leave one on is covered here.
Surface temperature, where it is published
WarmlyYours publishes overheat protection figures on the freestanding models: 149°F on the Ibiza and 167°F on the Barcelona. It publishes no cap for the Palma. If there are small children in the house, the published number is worth having, and the lower one is the safer.
Where the outlet has to be
Both formats need a socket: 71 in. of cord on the Ibiza and Palma, 77 in. on the Barcelona. Measure from the outlet to where the warmer will stand or hang, and never bridge the gap with an extension cord in a bathroom. If there is no suitable outlet, the hardwired route is a different conversation — and an electrician’s.
Which to choose
Freestanding if you rent, if the walls are tiled and you would rather not drill, or if you might rearrange the room. Wall-mounted if floor space is the scarce thing, you own the place, and you want the warmer out of the way of the door.
If freestanding is the answer, the floor-standing rails are ranked here on published wattage, bars and footprint.
The full towel warmer rankings are here, and buckets against racks is the other format question.

3 we would buy. Each carries its Renter-Safe Install Rating, the published specs behind it, and the honest gap in what we know.

1. The freestanding pick
WarmlyYours Ibiza Freestanding Towel Warmer
WarmlyYours · TWS5-IBZ06PP · best for renters, and bathrooms whose walls are full
90 W over six bars, a 71 in. cord, a 149°F surface cap and a five-year warranty — no fixings.
WarmlyYours’ Ibiza is published as “Freestanding” with a “71″” cord and a “NEMA 5-15 (Type B)” plug: it stands on the floor and plugs into a normal outlet.
It draws “90 W” across six heated bars, is built from “304-stainless steel”, and has “built-in TempSmart overheat protection” holding surfaces below “149°F (65°C)”. WarmlyYours backs it for five years.
On a two-hour daily timer that works out to about 3 cents a day, or roughly $12 a year at 18.34 cents per kWh.

What we can’t tell you
WarmlyYours publishes no timer on the unit itself, so the schedule is down to a plug-in timer.

2. The freestanding one that holds more
WarmlyYours Barcelona Freestanding Towel Warmer
WarmlyYours · TW-BC-08BS-FS2 · best for two large towels at once
150 W over eight bars, published as warming up to two large towels, with a 167°F cap.
The Barcelona is the bigger freestanding option: “150 W”, “8” heated bars “warming up to 2 large towels”, and a 77 in. cord.
Its TempSmart cap is higher at 167°F, and the warranty is shorter at two years against the Ibiza’s five — a trade worth noticing. About 6 cents a day on a two-hour timer.

3. The wall-mounted pick
WarmlyYours Palma Wall-Mounted Plug-In Towel Warmer
WarmlyYours · TWS2-PLM04PP · best for small bathrooms with a free wall
60 W over four bars, 4.33 in. deep on the wall, with an installation manual and hardware kit.
The Palma is the wall-mounted equivalent: “60 W”, four bars, and a body just “4.33″” deep, shipped with an “installation manual and hardware kit”.
It still plugs into a normal outlet on a 71 in. cord, so the electrical side is as simple as the freestanding models. It is the bracket that changes everything for a tenant.

Questions people actually ask
are freestanding towel warmers as good as wall mounted
Electrically they are the same: the WarmlyYours models here are all plug-in, 120 V and 304 stainless. Freestanding units hold more bars but take floor space; the wall-mounted Palma projects 4.33 inches and takes none.
can renters use a towel warmer
A freestanding one, yes. WarmlyYours publishes the Ibiza and Barcelona as freestanding with a NEMA 5-15 plug, so nothing is fixed to the wall. Wall-mounted models ship with a hardware kit and rate Owner-only.
how much does a towel warmer cost to run
From the published wattage: the 90 W Ibiza is about 3 cents a day on a two-hour timer and the 150 W Barcelona about 6 cents, at 18.34 cents per kWh. Left on permanently, the 60 W Palma is about 26 cents a day.
how hot does a towel warmer get
WarmlyYours publishes TempSmart overheat protection holding surfaces below 149°F on the Ibiza and 167°F on the Barcelona. It publishes no surface temperature figure for the wall-mounted Palma.
