The best gifts for someone who loves baths

A bath person has different problems from a shower person: the room goes cold, the towel is never warm, and the floor is always wet. These four solve those, in that order.

By Sawyer V. · · How we research

Zadro 20-Liter Towel Warmer Bucket

The short answer

Buy the Zadro 20-liter towel warmer bucket: a 480 W tub with a published 15, 30, 45 or 60-minute timer, so the towel is hot at the moment the bath ends. Best textile: an ONSEN Supima waffle bath towel at a published 31 x 57 in. Best floor fix: a Dorai Bath Stone. Skip the grip mat, however sensible it looks — it is safety equipment, not a gift.

We earn a commission if you buy through the links on this page, at no extra cost to you. It does not change which products we pick or what we say about them — here is exactly how that works.

Why bath people need different things

A shower is four minutes and the room stays warm. A bath is forty, the water cools, the room cools with it, and the floor ends up wetter than any shower makes it. That is why this list is heat, textile and floor rather than the usual spa-adjacent miscellany — those are the three things that actually go wrong.

Every pick rates Safe on our install rating: nothing drilled, nothing fixed, nothing to make good afterward. How the rating works is here.

How to choose one

If their bathroom is cold, buy the warmer. It is the only gift here that changes how the bath itself feels rather than what happens afterward. The other ways to warm a cold bathroom are here.

If they already have good towels, the floor is the gap. Almost nobody buys themselves a stone mat and almost everybody keeps one once they have it.

If you want the whole thing, the warmer and the towel are designed to be given together, and the combination is the closest a house gets to the hotel version. What else makes a bathroom feel like a hotel is here.

What we have not done

We have not used any of these. Every number above is published by the maker and cited under each pick, and where nothing is published — Zadro on heat-up time and maximum temperature, ONSEN on GSM, Dorai on weight, Coyuchi on dimensions — the page says so rather than estimating. Prices are read live and shown with the date they were checked.

Zadro Zadro 20-Liter Towel Warmer Bucket

1. Best gift for a bath lover

Zadro 20-Liter Towel Warmer Bucket

Zadro · TWB01 · best for the moment between getting out and getting dry, which is the cold one

A 20-liter, 480 W towel warmer tub with a published four-step timer and automatic shut-off, that plugs into a normal outlet.

The failure point of a long bath is the ninety seconds after it. Zadro publishes a “20-Liter large towel heater tub” drawing a maximum 480 W on 120 V, with a timer you “set… to 15, 30, 45 or 60 minutes before automatically shutting off”.

A bucket rather than a rack is the right form for a bath lover specifically. A rack warms a towel gently over an hour; a bucket is designed to deliver a genuinely hot towel on a timer you set when you start running the water. It is published at 21.25 inches high and 12 in diameter, 8.5 lbs, on an 83-inch cord — so it needs floor space and an outlet, not a wall. Bucket against rack is compared here.

Zadro publishes a “polarized B power plug for increased safety”, and nothing is fitted to the room, so it suits a rented bathroom as well as an owned one.

What’s wrong with it

Zadro publishes neither a heat-up time nor a maximum temperature, so you cannot tell the recipient how long to set it for.

What we can’t tell you

No published capacity in towels — “20-Liter” is a volume, not a count, and how many bath sheets it takes is unstated.

ONSEN ONSEN Supima Waffle Bath Towel

2. Best textile

ONSEN Supima Waffle Bath Towel

ONSEN · Supima Waffle Bath Towel · best for a bathroom that never quite dries out between uses

31 x 57 in. and 16.5 oz. of USA-grown Supima cotton in an open waffle weave, OEKO-TEX certified, with a 60-shower trial.

ONSEN’s Supima Waffle Bath Towel publishes “31 x 57 in or 79 x 145 cm” at “16.5 oz or 470 g” in “100% USA-grown extra-long-staple Supima® cotton”.

Published dimensions and a published weight together are rare, and they are what let you reason about a towel instead of guessing. 16.5 oz across 31 x 57 inches is a mid-weight towel in an open weave — substantial enough to feel like a treat, open enough to dry in a steamy room, which is exactly the problem a bath creates. Waffle against terry, on absorbency and drying, is here.

Pair it with the warmer above and you have the complete version of this gift.

Dorai Home Dorai Home Bath Stone Mat (Zen)

3. Best floor fix

Dorai Home Bath Stone Mat (Zen)

Dorai Home · Bath Stone Mat — Zen · best for stepping out of a full tub onto a cold, wet floor

A 23.6 x 15.6 in. diatomaceous-earth mat with a rubberized non-slip pad, published to dry in seconds.

Dorai’s Bath Stone Mat publishes 23.6 x 15.6 x 0.4 inches of “Compressed diatomaceous earth and paper”, with a rubberized bottom pad in the box, that “Evaporates in seconds to keep your feet and your floor dry”.

A bath empties far more water onto a floor than a shower does, and a cotton mat that never dries is the usual result. Dorai’s published mold claim is carefully worded and worth quoting exactly — it “Helps prevent bacteria growth by eliminating the moist environment where mold thrives”. That is a claim about dryness, not a biocide claim, and it is the honest version. Stone against cotton is compared here.

Dorai publishes the maintenance as well: wash with mild soap and an abrasive sponge, and sand lightly with medium grit for stains, in a ventilated room.

Coyuchi Air Weight Organic Towels

4. Best certified towel

Air Weight Organic Towels

Coyuchi · Air Weight Organic Towels · best for someone who cares where the cotton came from

550 GSM organic cotton in a twill weave carrying GOTS, Fair Trade and Made Safe certification — three certificates most towels do not have.

Coyuchi’s Air Weight towels publish “GOTS + Fair Trade + Made Safe Certified” with “100% organic cotton… grown + woven in India”, in “A twill weave” at 550 GSM for the bath towel.

550 GSM is the useful number here: heavy enough to feel like a proper bath towel, light enough that it dries between soaks rather than sitting damp on a rail. Coyuchi publishes the towel as “drying off quickly and efficiently” rather than chasing the heaviest weight on the shelf, which is the right trade for a bathroom with a tub in it. What GSM means across the range is here.

Three certifications on one towel is genuinely unusual, and it is the detail that makes this a considered gift rather than a generic one.

Gorilla Grip Bath Mat, 35 in. x 16 in.

The one to skip

Bath Mat, 35 in. x 16 in.

Gorilla Grip · Bath Mat 35 x 16 · best for a tub that is genuinely slippery, bought by the person who uses it

A sensible, well-specified tub mat, and a present that reads as a comment on somebody's balance.

The product does its job. Gorilla Grip publishes “35" x 16"” with “hundreds of suction cups” and “hundreds of drainage holes” in “a unique hexagon design”, and it is machine washable. We rank the non-slip mats on their own page.

It is here because safety equipment makes a poor present. A grip mat handed over as a gift says something about how you think the recipient moves, and that is true however carefully it is wrapped. It is a thing people should buy for themselves, when they decide they want it.

There is also a practical catch worth knowing: Gorilla Grip publishes that it should be installed “only on smooth, clean, non-textured, non-tiled surfaces” and not on “newly refinished tubs”. You cannot check any of that from outside the room.

Questions people actually ask

what do you get someone who loves baths

Heat, in some form. The Zadro TWB01 is a 20-liter towel warmer tub with a published 15, 30, 45 or 60-minute timer and automatic shut-off, so the towel is hot at the exact moment the bath ends — which is the part a bath person actually complains about.

The best towel warmer buckets

is a towel warmer worth it for baths

More so than for showers, because a bath leaves you standing wet in a room that has had forty minutes to cool down. A bucket style heats a towel fast on a timer; a rack warms gently over a longer period.

Are towel warmers worth it?

what kind of towel is best for a bath

An open weave in a mid weight, so it feels substantial but still dries in a steamy room. ONSEN publishes its Supima waffle bath towel at 31 x 57 in. and 16.5 oz.; Coyuchi publishes 550 GSM for its Air Weight twill.

The best bath towels

what should you not buy a bath lover

Non-slip grip mats and anything else that reads as safety equipment, because as a gift it comments on the recipient rather than their bath. Bath oils are the other trap — several mat makers publish warnings that oils make their surfaces slippery.
